Take 3

Betsy Markey, Ashwin Madia, and Jill Derby are all facing negative attacks from the Republicans who are desperately trying to hold onto these seats. Help them fight back.

That's what I'm asking for today. I need you to help me take 3 Republican seats in the U.S. House and give Barack Obama the governing majority he needs to get out of the mess George Bush and Dick Cheney have created.

Betsy Markey (CO-4), Ashwin Madia (MN-3), and Jill Derby (NV-2) are running great campaigns in tough Republican districts. They're making their final decisions on advertising in the final weeks. They're all facing negative attacks from the Republicans who are desperately trying to hold onto these seats. They need our help to fight back.

Please contribute to Betsy, Ashwin, and Jill. Give them a boost in this final month before Election Day.

Betsy Markey is a successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, mother of three and community volunteer running in Colorado's 4th Congressional District. A former staffer for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado, Betsy is the right candidate to defeat right-wing extremist, Marilyn Musgrave.

Betsy Markey

Betsy Markey

Recent polls have shown Betsy ahead of Musgrave, and it's clear why voters want a new Representative. Musgrave, one of the most conservative members of Congress, has focused on divisive social issues such as gay marriage and abortion. In fact in 2006, with a war raging in Iraq, a broken health care system, and a weakening economy, she called banning gay marriage "the most important issue that we face today." She is simply out-of-touch.

This race is one of the closest ones this year, and Musgrave has already launched misleading, negative ads that attack Betsy's character. Betsy needs our help now. Donate to her campaign today!

I've written to you before about Ashwin Madia. I'm happy to report that with the Clark community's early support he has inched ahead in the race for Minnesota's 3rd Congressional district.

Ashwin Madia

Ashwin Madia

As an Iraq War veteran, Ashwin Madia knows how important it is that we get our troops out of Iraq and safely home. He spent seven months in Iraq, working with U.S. officials, European Union and United Nations representatives, and Iraqi judicial officers to strengthen the Iraqi criminal justice system.

But with Ashwin pulling ahead, the attacks have started coming. His opponent is running nasty attack ads against Ashwin, and according to one major newspaper, "using racial code words against Madia, whose family hails from India."

That's unacceptable.

We can't let the right-wing smear Ashwin's record and good name. Donate to his campaign today!

Jill Derby

Jill Derby

Last cycle, our community helped Jill Derby come up just short of defeating Dean Heller. This year, it's going to be different. Jill has spent her career as an educator, and served 18 years on the Nevada Board of Regents, the governing board for the Nevada System of Higher Education. As a Regent, Jill earned respect and praise from Nevadans of all political stripes, as well as national attention as a leader in higher education.

Dean Heller has voted 92% of the time with President Bush, opposed educational benefits for our veterans, and has blocked renewable energy development and efficiency standards at every opportunity.

Nevadans are ready for change. Let's help put Jill over the top this time. Donate to Jill's campaign today!

Thank you for doing everything you can to help bring change to Washington.

Wesley Clark fires up Democrats

The retired Army general visited Destin and Crestview on Tuesday

September 30, 2008 | Northwest Florida Daily News | Tom McLaughlin and Kyle Wright

DESTIN - Bush-bashing, McCain cracks and Palin-knocking were all the rage Tuesday morning at Harbor Docks restaurant.

Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark was brought in to fire up Democrats in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama. He got the opportunity before about 200 people.

"It's wonderful. It's this way all over the country," Clark said of the crowd's size and enthusiasm.

He said the Bush administration has helped fuel the fire for Obama.

"People know something's wrong. It's not like America to lurch from crisis to crisis. They're counting on Barack Obama to fix it," he said.

Those in attendance were young and old, black, white and Asian, veteran and non-veteran, even Republican. One man, 84-year-old Fred Hoole, told Clark he intended to vote for a Democrat for president for the first time since 1948.

Harbor Docks owner Charles Morgan set the tone for the event with a shot at Okaloosa County Republicans, who were unable to land a national figure for a rally Sunday.

Listing some of the notable Democrats who have spoken at Harbor Docks, Morgan noted, "That may lead you to think we lean to the Democratic side of things."

"Actually, we'd be happy to host Republicans here," Morgan added. "But in a county where Republicans outnumber Democrats by three to one ... they can't get anybody down here to speak. I don't think we'd have any more success."

Clark spoke of the four crises of the Bush administration, beginning with 9/11 and then the invasion of Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the now-unfolding economic crisis.

In each crisis, poor planning led to unacceptable outcomes, Clark said.

Dirty Season

Mark Udall and Ronnie Musgrove are in two of the toughest Senate races in the entire country, and they need your help.

It's getting dirty. You know it's almost election day when the right wing jumpstarts their efforts to win at any cost.

I don't know about you, but it just fires me up to help the candidates who are facing these dirty tactics. That's why I need you to join me in helping Mark Udall in Colorado and Ronnie Musgrove in Mississippi. Mark and Ronnie are in two of the toughest Senate races in the entire country, and they need your help.

Contribute to Mark Udall and Ronnie Musgrove before tomorrow's September 30th end-of-quarter deadline!

Mark Udall

Mark Udall

I hope you saw Mark Udall debate his opponent Bob Schaffer on Meet the Press yesterday.

Mark showed why Colorado needs him to be its Senator. Mark is a respected member of the House Armed Services Committee. He had the judgment to vote against the war in Iraq, and he continues to respect and honor the sacrifices of our veterans by fighting for the benefits they deserve.

Compare this to his opponent. As an oil executive, Schaffer went to Iraq to negotiate oil deals with Kurdistan, even though the State Department warned such actions could destabilize Iraq. As a former member of Congress, Bob Schaffer should know better. He knowingly risked the safety of our troops for his own self interests. It's unconscionable.

Yet over a dozen outside groups have spent over $12 million in attack ads on Mark. He's facing more attacks from outside groups than any Senate candidate in the country.

We can't let these special interests take Mark down. Contribute to his campaign before the September 30th fundraising deadline!

Ronnie Musgrove

Ronnie Musgrove

Now, it doesn't get much dirtier than trying to keep voters from casting a vote in an election. But that's exactly what Republicans tried to do in Mississippi.

The right-wing Governor and leadership in Mississippi tried to bury this race on the bottom of the ballot -- illegally -- to make it harder for people to vote for Ronnie. Thankfully, the right-wing's dirty campaign tactic was overruled by the Mississippi Supreme Court.

They're resorting to these tactics because they're worried. Democrats have a real chance to win this seat in deep red Mississippi. Ronnie, a former Governor who helped create over 52,000 new jobs and brought more than $14 billion in new investments to Mississippi, is running a strong campaign against appointed Republican Senator Roger Wicker. In fact, recent polls show the race to be a virtual tie.

The dirty tricks aren't going to stop, and Ronnie's going to need help to fight back. Contribute to his campaign today before tomorrow's midnight deadline.

The final weeks are critical to every campaign. Please make sure Mark and Ronnie have the resources to fight back in these final weeks.

Thank you for everything.

3 Fighting Women

Gabrielle Giffords, Dina Titus, and Judy Baker are 3 great female candidates for the U.S. House. They need your help. Click here to donate to their campaigns today!

A lot has been made over the last couple of weeks about gender and politics. I'm here to tell you that standing up for women's issues is not about sending just any woman to Washington -- no matter what the right-wing is trying to sell America.

No, it's about electing candidates who are fighting for issues that truly matter to women. It's about protecting a woman's right to choose. It's about education. It's about health care. And it's about protecting our families both at home and abroad.

I need your help today to elect three great female candidates for the U.S. House, who are fighting on the issues that matter to Americans: Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8), Dina Titus (NV-3), and Judy Baker (MO-9). Contribute to Gabrielle, Dina, and Judy today!

Gabrielle Giffords

Gabrielle Giffords

Gabrielle Giffords is a first term Congresswoman running for re-election in Arizona's 8th Congressional District. Gabrielle's business experience has made her an effective leader, successfully pushing 7 bills and amendments into law while introducing over 20 pieces of legislation in the House. Her priorities include expanding health care for American families and promoting alternative energy research and development.

Gabrielle's a rising star in our Party, and we must keep her seat in Congress. But her race is one of the most competitive in the country, and she needs our help. The right-wing is pouring in national resources in an attempt to take back this seat. In fact, George W. Bush visited Arizona to campaign for her opponent earlier this summer, raising half a million dollars.

Help Gabrielle fight back against the likes of George W. Bush. Contribute to her campaign today!

Dina Titus

Dina Titus

Dina has worked tirelessly on behalf of Nevada's most vulnerable citizens by promoting legislation that allows seniors and other Nevadans to purchase less expensive prescription drugs from Canada, mandates tougher penalties for criminals who commit identity theft, and increases penalties for offenders who perpetrate crimes against the disabled.

Her opponent, Jon Porter, has spent the last six years fighting for the Washington special interests. That's why he doesn't want to run on the issues and is up with the first negative ad in the race. I am asking you to join me and help Dina fight back.

Help Dina fight back against the negative attacks. Contribute to her campaign today!

Judy Baker is running in Missouri's 9th Congressional District.

Judy Baker

Judy Baker

It's a tough district with a partisan voting index of R+7, but her first poll shows her two points ahead of her opponent. This is exactly the kind of race the WesPAC community has made our specialty. We don't back down from the tough fights, and this is one of them.

Judy's experience saving rural health clinics and operating her own small business has made her a strong leader in the state legislature, where she has advocated for education an health care access. She stood up to the Republican governor's plan to cut 200,000 children and seniors off of Medicaid and voted to cut her own benefits instead.

The polls show Judy within striking distance of Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer. We need to help her make up the difference. Please contribute to Judy's campaign today!

This is an historic election. We have an opportunity make gains up and down the ballot. Please take a moment and help Gabrielle, Dina, and Judy today.

Thank you. Your support is making a difference.

Wes Clark
