The Asbury Park Press, the sole remaining newspaper in this part of the state, published Hermann Winkelmann's Saga.
At age 65, Hermann Winkelmann is still a formidable character, bigger than life, from the top of his Stetson to the tips of his boots.

Neocon GOP activists are going nuts over the immigration bill debate today!

Hello Everyone:
The Neocon GOP activist base hates with a passion the guest worker program in the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill which they consider "rewarding illegal behavior." The issue of illegal immigration to them is virtually considered to be a "mortal sin" issue (or "Political Kryptonite" as I have called it):
Democrats might win the White House in 2008 by giving Bush his immigration bill!

My daughter came home from Confirmation Class last night fired up about social injustice. She's always been tenderhearted and loving, but last night made her angry. Very angry.
She told me about the tent city where hundreds of homeless were living. The neighbors around didn't like their presence, so the police evicted them by slashing their tents. My daughter asked, "Why couldn't they just tell them to leave? Why did they have to destroy their homes?" Good question.

It has been repeated so often as to become a rhetorical tic: "Iraq will be the number one issue in the 2008 elections." If that is true, we're looking into the wrong end of the telescope. And we're going to pay for it. Worse, if Democratic candidates remain focused on Iraq, our party and our nation are going to get shot down. Just ask John Boyd.

Some of you may have remembered my post about putting RFID chips in US Passports (Got RFID Passport?) . Now we have the US Border Patrol requiring a US Passport from US citizens to LEAVE, not just enter, the U.S. via air travel. The UMW Post (Passports needed to re-enter U.S. by air from Mexico, Canada) explains,

I know that this topic has been blogged about before but it also seems to have fallen off the radar. Are the Democrats dealing with this? If not.. THEY SHOULD!
The overwhelming majority of the workers in the Marianas are immigrants who were promised a better life only to be placed in sweatshops, working long hours under grueling conditions for little pay and with none of the benefits that we have come to enjoy here in the States, albeit seemingly in decline. Many young women, lured with the vow of employment in the restaurant business, have instead been forced into prostitution and some have even been made to undergo abortions.
SECURING AMERICA MEANS SECURING OUR BORDERS

It really disgusts me how the issues of border security and illegal immigration are being handled by the Democratic Party. There is nothing right-wing about controlling our borders - it's called NATIONAL SECURITY. From possible terrorism to all the criminals we know enter our country this is a no-brainer type of issue. When it comes to illegal immigration I guess we are not the Party of working class and poor Americans - because they are the ones being screwed by cheap illegal labor. Americans will be dishwashers, etc - for a living wage. Are you ready to spend a few more bucks at your favorite restaurant so a LEGAL CITIZEN of this country gets a job? I am.
