The Donkey In The Room: Wes Clark 2008

Democratic politics | Fighting Dems | Wesley Clark
Tradition says an elephant in the room doesn’t get talked about, but tradition’s just another word for conventional wisdom, and CW until a few months ago said the U.S. Senate would stay under Republican control and George Allen was running for President. The elephant in the room can wait, let’s focus on an underreported donkey; General Wesley Clark.
Political pundits seem determined to talk right past Clark until he rears up and kicks them in the teeth. The beltway crowd is more tightly scripted than a corporate radio play list: “We’re about to play some back to back Spice Girl Hillary hits, but first here’s an Oldie but Goodie from Joe Biden, and don’t dare touch that dial , we’ll have some of that hot new Obama sound coming up for you shortly also!” Poor John Edwards isn’t the freshest face on the block anymore.

Please feel free to forward this on to help out Jim Webb and to make George Allen sweat even more than he is now!

Dear Mitch,
Notes from the campaign trail

The schedule of the campaign trail will keep me from being able to liveblog today but I wanted to bring our team of netroots supporters up to date with a few sound bites from the campaign trail.
While some will say that the candidate is almost always overly positive, I have to relay that the momentum for this race is clearly on our side. My opponent has decided to make validation of President George Bush's war in Iraq the number one issue in this race. He decided to go to Iraq 100 days prior to the election and afterward he returned to announce that all is well and if only the press would report all the great things that are going on we would see that as clearly as he had. He stated that the Iraqi Army was as well trained as the American Army and that our taxpayer dollars are being well spent. In short, he got off the plane and read the talking points that the White House had given him. (link, link, link)
Eric and Wes in Manhattan 6/19

Attending the Eric Massa/Wes Clark event in Manhattan last night was almost like a homecoming. Jacques’ loft, where the event was held, was one of the home bases for the NYC Draft Clark movement and I have fond memories of being there and stapling Draft Clark business cards to mini Clark bars to hand out at a local Democratic Club dinner and making homemade Clark04 buttons on the night that Wes announced he was getting in the race. That night we later paraded out onto Broadway with bags full of mini Clark bars and huge Clark ’04 signs. We were jubilant. We’d successfully drafted our man.

The fighting dem vets are alive and well. Here is the current count as best I can make out from the most recent survey. Anyone having information please let us know. You can check the latest "Fighting Dem "Muster Roll" here: Fighting-Dems.com. The main page has a chart detailing what is summarized below. Note that losses can be counted in two ways: 1) losses of individual candidates and 2) loss of a Senate or Congressional seat. If a vet withdraws to support another vet or losses to a vet, the district is not lost.
