Clark V Rove: The Warrior-Scholar faces down the Chicken Hawk-Dropout

| | | | |

Get your popcorn poppin’ and grab a front row seat for the Mother of all Debates— the true battle of Good vs Evil. General Wes Clark V Karl Rove. It all goes down in just a few weeks in the “Home of the Bulls” at the University of Buffalo.

General Clark has long confessed how he relishes “Going into the Lion’s Den”…. Well, this time he’ll be entering the ‘Bull’s Den’ to face off against the master of Bull himself; “Turd Blossom” aka Rove.

--------------------------------------------------------------

SIGNS:

Signs, I see signs everywhere that this was not only destined to occur, but that it’s going to be a knock out performance by Wes. Lookie here.

-----
Wesley Clark to Replace John Edwards in Debate with Rove

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- General Wesley K. Clark, U.S. Army (Ret.), will join Karl Rove for this month's UB Distinguished Speakers Series election debate. The program is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept. 26 in Alumni Arena on University of Buffalo's North Campus

The headline alone tempts the idea….Could Clarkies finally be getting our just desserts, some weird delayed karmic payback for the grief we experienced that night in 2004, when we heard there were (Ack!!) SEVEN LETTERS being painted on the Kerry plane… instead of five. Four years later, the five-lettered; “Clark to replace Edwards” looms sweetly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALUMNI ARENA--"HOME OF THE BULLS"
The perfect locale for Wes to wrestle the Dragon

Alumni Arena's main 6100 seat gymnasium is home to the Bulls' men's and women's basketball teams, wrestling team...The Phase II Building on the north side of Alumni Arena has an Olympic-sized swimming pool<---(SIGN) and a separate diving well, a triple gymnasium. Other areas are a wrestling practice room, two weight-training rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a varsity weight room

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But look at that press release again. Something else ring a bell there from the Clarkie archival past??

Yes. The Date. September 26th.<----SIGN!

Six years earlier – to the day – Wes Clark had testified before the House Armed Services Committee (September 26 2002) on the Iraq War Resolution and the anticipated invasion. A prescient Clark repeatedly urged patience and diplomacy, criticizing the Bush administration for undercutting "friends and allies", stating “I think it's not time yet to use force against Iraq”. And he was mocked by Rove colleagues and cohorts.

Richard Perle had gone before the same committee and smugly portrayed Wes as "hopelessly confused", "wildly optimistic" and called it "one of the dumber cliches, frankly, to say that force must always be a last resort.". GOP lawmakers joined in Perle's dismissal of General Clark’s argument that "time is on our side" in Iraq and that force should be used only as a "last resort."

Who’s wearing egg on their face now dudes?

To my mind- it’s another *sign*. Symbolic that the Fight of the Forces of Light Versus Darkness (in the ‘Home of the Bulls’) should occur on the anniversary of this historic date in Wes Clark’s “Right Again, Sir” timeline. It bodes good fortune.

Travel back in time with me for a moment to recall just how “hopelessly confused” Wes Clark was six years ago, on September 26th:

============================================

WES: “When you're talking about American men and women going and facing the risk we've been talking about this afternoon, and if you're talking to the mothers and the loved ones of those who die in that operation, you want to be sure that you're using force and expending American blood and lives and treasure as the ultimate last resort. Not because of a sense of impatience with the arcane ways of international institutions or frustration from the domestic political processes of Allies.

[...]

"I would hope that before we would use force as authorized here we would have exhausted all. other. means. If there's a way of incorporating that in the Resolution I think it makes the Resolution stronger, not weaker.”

[...]

“We should not be using force until the personnel, the organizations, the plans that will be required for post conflict Iraq are prepared and ready . . . . We need to be ready because if suddenly Saddam Hussein's government collapses and we don't have everything ready to go, we're going to have chaos in that region”.

Wow. Hopelessly confused…. I hope Wes recalls this anniversary prior to his debate with the Rover. In contrast… Rove is the man who told Republicans they should use the war on terrorism for partisan advantage. With his hand in all policy set by the president, from immigration to Medicare to the Middle East, Rove has stated, that a wartime president is impossible to attack and that if Bush were seen as a wartime president, he would be guaranateed two full terms.

Party before country vs country before party.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jan 2004 New York Times- Wes Taunts Karl<---SIGN!

Wesley Clark in Nashua, N.H.: ''So if Karl Rove is watching today - Karl, I want you to hear me loud and clear: I am going to provide tax cuts to ease the burdens for 31 million American families — and lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty — by raising the taxes on 0.1 percent of families — those who make more than $1,000,000 a year. You don't have to read my lips, I'm saying it. And if that makes me an 'old-style' Democrat, then I accept that label with pride and I dare you to come after me for it...''

I think I may resemble that remark... at some time in the future, of course.

From this poem:

Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Jenny Joseph

I tried real hard to think of some group I could label as Karl Rove groupies without being insulting and this was the best I could come up with (altho I'm still not sure it isn't an insult... to the worms):

Wesley Clark Demands Investigation of Bush's Manipulation of Intelligence
03-Oct-03

"Wesley Clark called on Friday for an independent probe of the Bush administration's use of intelligence before the Iraq war, calling it 'twisted' and possibly criminal... [Clark] said the American public needed to know if it was 'intentionally deceived.' In his harshest indictment yet of Bush , Clark said the administration's 'irresponsible' Iraq policy had put Americans in danger and the US in crisis mode at home and abroad.

Going further than his nine rivals for the Democratic nomination, most of whom have called for a special counsel to probe the leak of an undercover CIA officer's name, Clark also demanded an independent commission investigate the'possible manipulation' of intelligence leading to the war in Iraq.'Nothing could be a more serious violation of public trust than to consciously make a war based on false claims,' he told a conference of military reporters and editors. 'Its handling of intelligence and its retaliation against its critics may have been criminal.'"

Wes Clark on Open Government.

So forward thinking and so progressive. So what we need right now. Wahhh.

Submitted by ms in la on September 6, 2008 - 1:19pm.

Humor me, I know it's OT, but I just have to post an excerpt from this 2004 Wes Clark piece on open government. This is one of my big issues and he just NAILS IT so here. This is what we really needed/need:
====================================================

Just weeks after his Inauguration, President Bush appointed Vice President Cheney to direct a secret task force to discuss changes to America's energy policies.

But when ordered by Congress and government oversight committees, the President refused to release the minutes from the meetings or the names of the attendees.

The White House has since spent untold amounts of taxpayer dollars in federal court defending their secrecy.

This was just the beginning. In November 2001, President Bush signed an Executive Order making it harder to obtain information under the Freedom of Information Act - a thirty year-old law that protects the public's right to know.

Now, let's be clear. What he was trying to hide are not classified military records. They are not top secret national security documents. They are reports and memoranda on topics ranging from public health to environmental hazards.

That same month, to keep former President Bush's papers sealed, President Bush reversed the long-held practice of opening records of former presidents twelve years after the end of their term. And President Bush has extended the length of time that all classified documents are withheld from the American public.

Most recently, President Bush has refused to turn over all relevant White House, State Department, CIA, and National Security Council records to the September 11th Investigative Commission - keeping the Commission and the American people from getting to the truth about what happened that day.

Yet, within 24 hours after former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill criticized the President's leadership, the Bush Administration was calling for an investigation.

The bottom line: if you're not of the special interests or for the special interests, don't bother ringing the doorbell at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue - because no one's going to answer the door.

Mr. Bush, it's time you let America in, because the White House doesn't belong to you - it belongs to the American people.

That's why today, I'm announcing steps to reverse Mr. Bush's secrecy policies and my standards to create the most open and honest government in American history.

My openness doctrine follows the wisdom of Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, who wisely declared that "sunlight is the best disinfectant."

First and foremost, I will reverse the elaborate web of closed-door governing that President Bush has spent three years spinning. On day one of my Administration, I'll sign an Executive Order reversing George Bush's FOIA rollbacks, and restoring the public's right to know.

I will also release the records of Vice President Cheney's Task Force, reverse President Bush's interpretation of the Presidential Records Act, and replace his rules classifying documents with new ones that balance national security and the public's right to know.

And I will immediately extend the life of the September 11th Investigative Commission until its work is finished, and sign a new presidential memorandum directing the White House and intelligence agencies to fully cooperate with the Commission.

Second, I will establish a strict openness doctrine that will apply to every person at every level of a Clark Administration. Because no one, and no special interest, is above the best interests of the American people.

As part of my plan, I will create an independent panel of nonpartisan and highly distinguished experts to review all proposed assertions of Executive Privilege. If the Bush White House has taught us anything, it's that Executive Privilege is too often used as a tool to withhold documents from the public and Congress.

Huge sigh...

the time this was submitted up there at the top ^.... you'll perhaps cut me some slack on my errors! (has Barry been coaching you Reg???) ;-)

It was the wee, wee hours - after a long grueling day.

And once again - I was led astray by your "paper of record" - The New York Times-- which reported his age as 5 at the time of the death. Second paragraph here:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B05EEDD173CF930A35756C0A96F958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all

I've corrected it -

The height of 5'9" was, as stated (deleted now), only my guess - being 5'7" and all those times standing in front of him at relative eye level in flat or low heels. I suppose the "hand holds" might have done something to distort my vision at the time... anything's possible! :)

It's deleted now though because because danged Wikipedia corrected their gaffe about Rove's "Height" being listed in US dollars! They now show it properly as "net worth". Too bad. That was too funny last night! I hope some got to see the original error.

Chicken or Fish?

CHICKEN!!!!

The Anchor Bar

"On a Friday night in 1964, Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now famous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. Late that evening, a group of Dominic's friends arrived at the bar with ravenous appetites. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends to eat. They looked like chicken wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup.

Teressa had deep fried the wings and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and it didn't take long for people to flock to the bar to experience this new taste sensation. From that evening on, Buffalo Wings became a regular part of the menu at the Anchor Bar.

The phenomenon created in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo has spread across the globe. Although many have tried to duplicate Buffalo Wings, the closely guarded secret recipe is what makes Frank & Teressa's the proclaimed "Best Wings in the World."

Flights might be cheaper to Newark - if so, you can ride up with me and crash @ my place if need be. You know how to reach me...

Supa cheeeeeep right into Buffalo!  Just waiting to hear back from EH on whether he's coming along or not.  But if I lose my deal, I'll be sure to check Newark...used to fly in and out of there quite a bit, back in the days when I had a 'real' job.

You could all wear jackets, and take them off at one time. Then you could put them back on when someone needs to go to the restroom.

Now, if it were me, I'd rather see something like U-WES-A. No one needs to wear the dashes. Just have someone sitting where the dash would be, and stay seated while the U, Wes, and A stood up.

Can you picture if this all happened while KKKarl made his opening remarks? It might throw him off for the rest of the evening. Of course, that might give him an excuse for getting his tail kicked. He might even claim General Clark orchestrated it (it being discussed on his blog, blah blah).

Oh well, it was a nice idea....

Clark is gonna mop the floor with him. I wish there was a way I could go, but it's just too far away.

That was great to see. I just love me some Charlie Brown. Have such a good feeling about this guy. And what he is doing with all his contributions is really commendable, donating a portion of all to charity.

The Brown campaign donated $30,000 total to 3 different charities,Cottage Housing, the Greater Oroville Homeless Coalition, and Rebuild Hope. The recipients were determined by online polling.

Also found it so Clark-ian that Wes did that day of Democrats Work in his jacket the whole time in 100 degree heat. Wes Clark can stand the heat.... and stay in the kitchen!

Force (yes, I said force... so call me a marxist) the networks to give a candidate so many minutes of air-time for every so many dollars he raised for charity.

my hero!

Thanks for the vid--

I don't think we're going to get Karl, personally. Much to my chagrin. I just don't think we have anyone with the kind of chutzpah who is seriously interested in cleaning up that cistern in any deep, meaningful fashion. Fitz and a handful of earnest prosecutors can't carry the whole load. Not when the Justice department has been as rigged as the vote as the polls as the weather as the press as the intel as the war as the .... well, you know. Sticky problem. I guess best case scenario, if they would just all move to the Bush ranch in Paraguay and stay there -- forever-- at least the nation would be free of their presence.

as in "A Mongering of Clarkies."

Just struck me - 20 years ago it was the Grateful Dead.  Tyedye t-shirts and miracle burritos.

Now, I follow Wes Clark around as much as possible.

How weird is that?  Maybe we should have stalls in the parking lot, selling buttons and books.  We could wear Birkenstock's and Clark t-shirts. We could tape, and compare notes.  We could keep idea lists instead of song lists.

Oh - wait.  I think we do that.

OK.  How about "Clark Heads?"

However, I will be at O'Hare airport with hubby on September 21 for this cool run (although in my case, it will be probably be just a slow crawl while watching everyone speed past):
