Now's The Time To Move Forward
Submitted by kaflinn on August 29, 2008 - 8:16am.

If I sound like a dork, it's because I'm trying to make myself think at 5:30am and the IV of coffee is just getting warmed up, so forgive me...
OK - the convention is now over and, it really is time to move forward. Those here who have supported Senator Clinton have had many months to vent their frustrations and try to get themselves used to the idea of Senator Obama as the nominee. Those who supported Senator Obama have had those same months to vent their frustrations at Clinton supporters. It should end now. Please.
I've sat back for several weeks and, mostly, watched the conversations here, and as much as I feel for those who supported Clinton especially, and as pissed off as I was and am, along with all of you, at how we see General Clark was treated recently...we've gotten off track.
We need to get back on track and get focused on the work ahead. And there's a whole lot of it and very little time. Whatever you think of the presidential nominee, you've every right to think it - good or bad - but please, from here on in, let's get back on track and work to get Dems elected up and down the ticket.
It doesn't matter who you help. It matters that you help someone. It matters that you focus on helping, now, and not sinking into being so angry you can't be of help to anyone, including those who do have the same beliefs you've held all your lives.
I've been non-partisan all my life, so it's very hard for me to say we have to work to get (only) Dems elected, but right now, they are the only ones running I see who are worth a damn...and that's a very sad commentary on the state of our country. Make no mistake - what I think of the Dem Party as it stands right now, is unprintable on General Clark's board and in most public places - but those running as Dems are doing so for the right reasons - and for the same reasons you call yourselves Democrats. And yes...some of them just barely qualify as 'the lesser of two evils'...but they do qualify nonetheless.
I'm not naive enough to think or believe any one candidate can make the next four years wonderful - nor should you be - but I do know that if we sit by and do nothing, because we're too busy being pissed off at the system, and each other, we're likely to allow the wrong people in office and end up with the next four years making us pine for the good ole days of Bush/Cheney! I don't think any of you want that. I know I don't. And I'm pretty damn sure General Clark doesn't want that.
So please - let's agree to disagree on the choice of presidential nominees. We've beaten the topic to death, I think, for the past six months, and that's as it should be. But now the choice is made. There's no changing it - so there is also no benefit in continuing to beat it to death. You have the right and the obligation to vote your conscience...in private...November 4th. By all means - do that. In the meantime, can we please, please, please, get back to why we're all here in the first place and help General Clark and WesPAC get some good people into office??!
Go have a great weekend - enjoy for family and friends who are not online. In fact - ignore your computer for a few days. Go have a picnic, watch the parades, watch the various movie marathons on tv, go to the movies, work in the garden, visit your parents, aunts and uncles, play with your children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews and remember they are why you're doing all this. Then come back here on Tuesday ready to work for people up and down the ticket. Please. We have to move beyond this or we'll be toast!
See you Tuesday...and thanks for everything,
;-) kelly

And I swear that I'm really going to get some sleep today.

What a great post. I'm so torn right now, but you put everything into the right perspective: vote who you want for (or not), but work your ass of for your local candidats.
Again, thanks for your sane and long-term thinking and reminding us of what we CAN do right now. I don't know how I will vote, if at all, but your thoughts remind me of the things I CAN do. You are a fine advocate Kelly. I truly admire your common sense, and your ability to communicate it in a way I think we all can relate to.

right you are, as usual, Kelly.

Wes Clark could still secure America as a national security candidate.
Neither Obama or Hil were my first choice for the Dem Nominee.
But now that O is the Dem nominee, I will vote for him in November. We absolutely cannot tolerate four more years of McSame's KKKarl Rove's run campaign.
I live in a purple state, it may swing either way. I have to vote.
I recently saw Shorties blog regarding the e-mail she received regarding Ms. Obama.
Sadly, when I speak to some people regarding their thoughts on O, some state that he and his wife are racist. My retort is, "You have heard nasty rumors and haven't bothered to check out the facts. But is your reluctance to do so causes me to think you are racist."
Regarding some of the anger on the blog, please don't think of this as a negative remark. But this anger has been going on for about three months now. I have gotten over bad relationships in a shorter amount of time.
Fair or not, O is the nominee. I will vote for the Dem ticket, and will do what I can to get out the vote.
And if those who are angry enough to vote for McCain, step outside yourselves for a second. This man is a disaster for our country.
I beg you just to debate with yourself or others, what positives McSame would bring if elected, and I would love to see some responses.
I am a supporter of General Clark since 2003.

we do need to help Wes Clark to get more and better Democrats into office!
