McGovern Defends Clark and reinforces his point

George McGovern takes up the mantle and makes Clark's point in defending him:
McGovern Says McCain's War Experience Not a Qualification for White House.
By Susan Milligan, Globe staff
WASHINGTON -- He was a pilot in World War II, bombing targets in Europe to stop Hitler. But former Senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern says that didn't qualify him to run the country -- and the same goes for GOP presumptive nominee John McCain.

A great article from across the pond:
Atlantic Eye: Defending Gen. Wesley Clark
By MARC S. ELLENBOGEN, UPI International l Columnist | Published: July 3, 2008 at 7:20 PM
...Had the Bush administration had more men with character; had those who have it not been afraid to use it; and those who received the information not been terrified to stand by it; the United States would not be in the disastrous muddle it's in today. A Democratic president -- any new president -- needs men and women around him who will tell the God's honest truth -- blunt, unfiltered and accurate....
Europeans are startled that a man of such great distinction, who they know and worked with, would be left in the lurch by those who should be standing behind him. They see it as a character weakness on the part of Democrats that he is not being publicly supported, especially by those who aspire to positions of high leadership. "I find it a distressing sign of weakness that he was not supported by Senators Obama and Clinton, or by any leading Democrat for that matter," a European foreign minister said to me.
An appropriate response to his comments on McCain would have been: Clark has served our country for 45 years. He is a man with experience, with great character. Clark called McCain a great war hero -- a man to whom he and millions of soldiers look up to. I agree with Clark that McCain is a great war hero. I also agree that he does not have executive experience. Questioning McCain's executive experience does not diminish his war record. It is an appropriate question that should be asked. I stand by Clark, who has served our country with distinction............"
......
"Well done, General Clark. The United States needs men and women like you.
Presidents need advisers who will tell them what they must know, not what they want to hear."

A request to temporarily modify the rating system

In my opinion the rating system is sometimes being used as a weapon to promote discord on this site. Take a look at this thread for example

Defending Wes: Dem Leadership strikes out

Wesley Clark
It's been several weeks since Wes Clark's out of context quote on Face the Nation exploded into a media frenzy that was essentially used to buttress McCain's qualifications for President.
"Inartful", but really Artful. Congratulations, General Clark!

The furor over Wes Clark's out of context line "Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president." has actually created a great opportunity to criticize John McCain's judgment. Ironic that Wes has probably received more media attention than he has since he entered the 2004 primaries, and has had a chance to explain just why McCain is not a good presidential candidate based on McCain's national security shortcomings in judgment and temperament.
Anything we can do to help Wes become Secty of State or VP?
Submitted by andym on June 7, 2008 - 8:23pm.
I came back to this blog a few months ago with the hope that the Democratic Nomination process would soon be over and to see if there was anything we could do to help promote Wes Clark as Vice President or perhaps Secretary of State. Unfortunately, the primary season was a long and very partisan one which created a lot of enmity among Democrats in general and supporters of General Clark, specifically.
Clinton/Obama 2008

Democratic politics
I had been hoping for quite some time that Wes Clark would be selected as VP on the ticket this year, given that McCain is the GE opponent. Of course, Wes' military credentials far surpass McCain's and he would be the perfect choice for Hillary or Barack.
However, after reading the various articles today stating that neither Clinton nor Obama can possibly win the nomination with pledged delegates, I am fairly certain that the Democratic party leaders will force a unity ticket.
Draft Wes Clark for Vice President

Democratic politics
I would like to help promote the idea of "drafting" Wes Clark for Vice President. Clearly he should have been the Presidential candidate this year, but since that is now impossible, I would like to see him get serious consideration as VP. Of course this is ultimately the decision of the nominee, but I feel that if the logic and support for Clark become well known that it will help favor him over the political dealing that may eventually dominate the discussions.
McCain as Republican nominee--> Clark as Democratic VP

2008 general election | Democratic politics | Vice President
I am hopeful that if McCain should become the Republican nominee, Wesley Clark would be seriously considered for VP on the Democratic ticket. Clark would bring the military credentials to balance McCain's military status and would add a very progressive presence to the ticket. I believe that he will be seriously considered should either Clinton or Obama be the nominee as both could benefit from Clark's presence. Obviously, Clinton and Clark are close, and could work together well.
